Meet our Coaches

ATC selects the best possible coaches - some are Olympians but all share the same values of helping kids be the best they can be.

Andy Freshwater

Having competed at the Olympics and on the World Cup circuit, Andy knows exactly what it takes to reach the top level. Internationally qualified in coaching and instructing, and having served as Head Coach for the British Children's Team, he has inspired a generation of racers. In addition, Andy works as a BASI Trainer and examiner, but most importantly, he's a superdad of three racing rippers!

Calum Shepherd (Shep)

Calum Shepherd experienced ATC first hand as a young racer climbing through the UK children’s ranking and graduating to international racing (FIS). Taking on coaching positions for ATC, SSC and LSR, Calum has gained a great deal of experience over the past few years, all whilst undertaking an engineering degree at Heriot-Watt university! As a fantastic skier and ex-racer he is a great role model for our talented kids coming through the ATC programme.

“I have always loved the atmosphere on camps and would love for young ski racers to be able to enjoy the same incredible experiences I had around the world through my time racing.”

He has been at the forefront of the ski racing world in the UK and abroad, founding a ski academy in New Zealand and coaching the Canadian and British National Ski Teams. Eilidh McLeod

Eilidh first coached with ATC 10 years ago. She holds the highest level of instructor and coaching qualifications and has a wealth of experience as a national team racer and coach working with athletes of all ages, from U10 rippers to future FIS world cuppers. Eilidh brings a passion for racing and all mountain skiing whilst inspiring learning both on and off the hill.

Hannah Gray

Hannah attended Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) one of America’s most successful ski racing academies. Following a successful number of years racing internationally, which included a podium at the British Championships, she is now focussing on sharing her knowledge and passion for ski racing with the younger generation. Hannah is adored by the kids she coaches.

Daisy Stark

Daisy has been a much loved part of the ATC and SSC coaching team for a number of years. She found her beginnings ski racing with ATC where she trained and competed internationally and in Scotland, and then transitioned into coaching while studying Psychology at Aberdeen University.

Duncan Shepherd

Completing the father/son coaching team, Duncan (father of Calum Shepherd) has been coaching in Scotland for many years and has a great deal of experience. He coaches weekly on the slopes of Aberdeen, weekends at Glenshee and occasionally Cairngorm, and on holiday weeks in the Alps. Duncan is also an accomplished golfer and masters ski racer.

Mark Blyth

Mark is an Olympian, consultant surgeon and most importantly (well, at least for us) a stable and consistent coaching force for ATC. As part of the SSC coaching program, Mark has been giving back to Scottish ski racing for many years. There is no weather that can stop his group from skiing all day, and smiling all day too. He and Rachael have three kids who are all at the top of the podiums in the UK racing scene.

Blair Fraser (ATC Freestyle)

We are welcoming Blair Fraser on to the ATC coaching team. Blair has been at the performance end of a wide range of freestyle sports including skiing, gymnastics, trampolining, skateboarding and wakeboarding (world class) giving him a fantastic understanding of both freestyle biometrics and psychology. He has an infectious fun-loving attitude and is always keen to go the extra mile for every athlete he is coaching to get them to the next level.

“It's about more than just the skiing, it's about the countless life skills we can take from these opportunities.”

Murray Howie

Murray is one of our most experienced and highly qualified coaches. He can progress any young racers at any level, and have a great time doing it. He is a BASI L4 Instructor and a qualified Snowsport Scotland coach. Murray is full of infectious enthusiasm and provides the kids with the perfect mix of technical progress while keeping the training fun and engaging. Murray also looked after the Military programme for ATC. In a very short time Murray and the ATC coaching team took the Royal Engineers all the way to becoming Army Champions in 2017/18.

Kate Angus

Kate has a great deal of coaching and life experience on and off the slopes. The diversity of skills, energy and experience Kate brings will have a very positive impact on the larger ATC community. Kate grew up racing as a member of the National Team and has recently been coaching at Whistler Mountain Ski Club with the U14 team. She is one of the UK’s highest qualified coaches.
